The Colonization of Africa and the Vance Model

The need for European settlers to acquire sufficient land for agricultural, pastoral, and residential needs led to the establishment of Native Reserves.  These Reserves were especially prevalent in settler colonies such as British controlled Kenya.  The imposition of taxes on the indigenous people led the Africans into a continuing cycle of poverty that allowed Europeans to take control of their land.
